Using Dublin Buses (Mercy Colege)

Dublin has many ways to travel around the city. Buses are the most common and easy way to get from place to place. There are also trains and trams called Luas. The bus system covers almost all parts of the city and nearby areas, making it simple for students and visitors to travel. Learning how to use the bus is important for moving around Dublin every day.

How to use Dublin Bus:

Check the bus number and destination before you travel (use apps or signs).
Wait at the correct bus stop with the right bus number.
Signal the bus by raising your hand when it approaches.
Enter through the front door and greet the driver.
Pay with a Leap Card (best) or exact coins (no change given).
Sit anywhere, but give blue seats to elderly or disabled people.
Press the stop button before your stop to get off.
Exit through the middle or back door.

Important Dublin Bus Tips:

Buses may be late sometimes.
Some buses stop running early at night.
On weekends, there are special late-night buses called Nitelink.
Use apps to check real-time bus times.
In Dublin we use the 'TFI' app available for download on android & the Apple app store.
If you are not sure, ask the driver or another passenger.

How to Catch the LUAS Tram in Dublin (TUD)

Find your nearest LUAS stop and check the tram line (Red or Green) and direction
Buy a ticket or use a Leap Card before boarding (machines at the stop).
Wait behind the yellow line until the tram stop.
Let passengers get off before you get on through the doors.
Tap your Leap Card on the reader when you enter.
Find a seat or stand holding the handrails.
Press the stop button before your stop to request to get off.
Exit through any door when the tram stops.

Security

Public transport in Dublin is generally safe. There are security cameras on buses and trams, and staff may be present to help if needed. It is important to keep your belongings with you and be aware of your surroundings, especially during busy times or at night. If you see any problems, you can tell the driver or contact transport staff for help.
